12.4 Environmental justice and community advocacy

Environmental racism disproportionately affects Chicanx and Latinx communities, exposing them to hazardous pollutants and health risks. This injustice stems from a lack of political power and resources, leading to higher rates of chronic diseases and decreased life expectancy.

Community advocacy plays a crucial role in fighting environmental injustice. Grassroots movements raise awareness, collaborate with organizations, and push for policy changes. While some laws aim to protect public health, there's still a need for more comprehensive and enforceable policies to address systemic inequities.
