Definition

The hypothalamus is a small but crucial part of the brain located below the thalamus and above the pituitary gland, responsible for regulating many of the body's key processes, such as temperature control, thirst, hunger, sleep, mood, and sexual function. It acts as a link between the endocrine system and the nervous system by controlling the pituitary gland.
