Acid precipitation refers to any form of precipitation, such as rain, snow, or fog, that has a higher acidity than normal, typically with a pH level below 5.6. This phenomenon is primarily caused by the release of sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) into the atmosphere, which react with water vapor to form sulfuric and nitric acids. Acid precipitation can significantly harm ecosystems, infrastructure, and human health.
