The Axis refers to the coalition of countries led by Germany, Italy, and Japan during World War II, which opposed the Allied powers. This alliance was characterized by a shared ambition for territorial expansion, militarism, and a desire to overthrow the post-World War I international order established by the Treaty of Versailles. The Axis sought to establish dominance in Europe and Asia through aggressive military campaigns and authoritarian governance.
