Definition

The nervous system is a complex network of nerves and cells that transmit signals between different parts of the body. It's divided into two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS).

Related terms

Central Nervous System (CNS): This is made up of the brain and spinal cord. It processes information received from all parts of the body.

Peripheral Nervous System (PNS): This consists of all other nerve tissues in the body outside of the CNS. It connects all parts of the body to the CNS.

Autonomic Nervous System (ANS): A part of PNS that controls involuntary actions such as heartbeat or digestion.
