Trail of Tears: The forced relocation of Native Americans, particularly the Cherokee Nation, from their ancestral lands in the southeastern United States to present-day Oklahoma. Many Native Americans suffered greatly during this journey.
Indian Removal Act: A law passed by President Andrew Jackson in 1830, which authorized the removal of Native American tribes living in the Southeastern United States to lands west of the Mississippi River.
Dawes Act: An 1887 law that aimed to assimilate Native Americans into mainstream American society by granting them individual plots of land. However, it had negative consequences as it led to loss of tribal lands and cultural identity.
