from class:

AP US History

Definition

New Spain territories were the Spanish colonies established in the Americas during the 16th century. These territories included present-day Mexico, Central America, parts of the United States (such as Florida and the Southwest), and various Caribbean islands. They were characterized by Spanish cultural influences, large-scale agriculture (plantations), mining operations for precious metals like silver, and a rigid caste system.
