Definition

President Polk's efforts to purchase land from Mexico refers to his negotiation and acquisition of territory through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, which ended the Mexican-American War. This expansion enabled the United States to acquire present-day California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and parts of Texas.
