Unit 5 – Cognitive Psychology
Topic 5.6
Why does eating certain foods sometimes trigger specific childhood memories?
Childhood memories related to food are stored in a separate section of the brain which gets activated during eating.
Smell and taste are directly linked to the emotional center of our brain where long-term memories reside.
Certain foods force your brain into a state similar to hypnosis, unlocking suppressed memories.
It's purely coincidental and there is no biological explanation for it.
