AP US History
Unit 9 – Entering Into the 21st Century, 1980–Present
Topic 9.5
How does the wave of Cuban immigration following Fidel Castro's rise mirror earlier historical migration patterns?
Similar to Dust Bowl migrants, most Cubans were farmers escaping environmental disaster.
Like many previous groups, Cubans left their home country due to political oppression seeking freedom in America.
Just like with earlier European immigrants, Cubans moved primarily due to religious persecution at home.
As with Irish immigrants during the potato famine, Cubans migrated due to widespread food shortages.
